Tesshu Jewel

Cinatamani by Tesshu

From John Stevens: This Zenga depicts a hyoju, a flaming magic jewel that grants any wish.

(In Hindu and Buddhist traditions, the jewel is known as mani or cintamani.) A painting of a magic jewel is hung during the New Year Season to serve as a good luck charm that will make all one’s dreams come true. The best way to be blessed is to live a good life, behave well, and be content with what you have. In Zen, the magic jewel is believed to purify the mind, liberate one from negative passions, and lead to enlightenment; once you have that everything seems like a gift. This magic power of this huge Zenga is overwhelming. It blows you away when you look at it. It is almost scary it is so intense. It appears three dimensional exploding through space.
